Reiki translates from Japanese to mean ‘sacred’ and ‘energy’, and is commonly
translated as Universal Life Force Energy. This system is believed to be an ancient Tibetan Buddhist practice rediscovered in the mid-1800’s by Mikao Usui.
Chujiro Hayashi was one of Mikao Usui’s principal students, who in turn taught Hawayo Takata, a Japanese-American woman who brought the teachings of Reiki to the West.
Reiki is passed from teacher to student through attunements, or initiations, and a healing session involves the gentle transmission of Universal Energy through the practitioner’s palms to the client’s body. The energy has an inherent wisdom that heals where it is needed, helping to restore balance on all levels.
