didjeridu
singing bowls
The didjeridu, or yidaki, is one of the oldest traditional instruments. An Australian
Aboriginal myth tells of a race of spirit beings called the Wandjina who wandered the earth in Dreamtime and created life through sound, leaving behind the didjeridu as a way for mankind to communicate with them where they now live in the sky.
The didjeridu is traditionally created from eucalyptus wood that has been naturally hollowed out by termites. When played with a technique known as circular breathing it creates a continuous drone or fundamental note, with distinct overtones, or harmonics. These subtle sounds facilitate meditation and healing for both the player and listener.
During a healing session the didjeridu is played around the individual's energetic field and systems. The vibrations can be felt physically and promote a deep state of relaxation that supports the release of energetic blocks and a return to harmonious rhythms of wellbeing.
